Francis Hopkinson-Monmouth Court House Chapter,
Freehold, New Jersey

While the Francis Hopkinson-Monmouth Court House Chapter DAR lists its "hometown" as Freehold, New Jersey, and the group generally meets in either Monmouth County or Middlesex County, membership mainly consists of Daughters from across central New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. Read more about our chapter.

Chapter members are very active in supporting our troops overseas, volunteering to help our veterans, and preserving history for future generations.

The chapter gets its name from two chapters that merged on October 15, 1994. The chapter regent after the merger was Beverly Lunt McCarthy (Mrs. George). At that time, the location of the chapter was changed from Hightstown to Freehold.

Francis Hopkinson Chapter was organized on April 20, 1918, and was named for Francis Hopkinson, of Bordentown, New Jersey, one of five signers of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey and a member of Continental Congress. He designed the New Jersey State seal. There is also some evidence that he was responsible for the design of the first American flag.

Monmouth Court House Chapter was organized on June 28, 1923, on the 145th Anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth. The current town of Freehold was previously called Monmouth Court House because in 1715 a court house was built, and the town became the county seat.

These videos provide a brief introduction to the work of Today's DAR, and will introduce you to some of the dynamic women who are part of our extraordinary service organization. More than sixteen videos on the DAR are featured on YouTube, with plans to add more as they become available.
